What is the IO App

What is the IO App

26/Sep/2018

What are the benefits for citizens?

The Digital Transformation Team of the Council Presidency, in collaboration with AgID (Agenzia per l'Italia Digitale), announced last May the birth of the application for smartphones IO that will allow citizens to manage relations with the Public Administration and access to public services.

Thanks to the new app, each user will be able to request and keep documents and certificates, accept and make payments, receive communications, messages and reminders. Thanks to a system of push notifications in a few minutes, in fact, you can perform operations that now require much more time.

Closed Beta phase of the application

Starting from this summer some services have been provided in an experimental way through the app thanks to the collaboration of several citizens who have been invited to use and test IO in their daily lives.

How will the app work?

IO will be based on the integration of several already active telematic systems that will integrate, facilitating not only the experience of the citizen, but also the work of the Public Administrations that will be able to use the functions of the IO platform to deliver the services.

In this phase the Digital Transformation Team is working on the enabling platforms, that is those components necessary to make the app fully operational:

  • the ANPR registry will allow to synchronize all the data of citizens who are currently divided into about 8000 different registries;
  • SPID will guarantee a secure and unique access;
  • the PagoPA payment node will become the engine of the app’s digital purse

In this way, the IO application will maximise the benefits of the major national infrastructures: identity, payments and registry.

What are the benefits for citizens and Public Administrations?

Thanks to IO, citizens will be able to access the archive of communications with the PA, manage delivery contacts and alerts in an "integrated" mode (e.g. make payments or mark deadlines in their calendar). The app, while being focused on the real needs and behavior of citizens, is also an advantage for all public entities that provide digital services. In fact, the project provides, also thanks to the integration of PagoPA, ANPR and SPID, most of the functions that are common to all the services of the Public Administration:

  • send electronic communications using only the tax code (without having to ask for the contact address to citizens);
  • not having to take care of the management and updating of contacts;
  • give greater authority to their communications;
  • communicating deadlines and facilitating tax payments;
  • recover the status of forwarding and reading of the communication.

For those interested in knowing how IO works in detail, the prototype of the service is available on the io.italia website, where you can navigate the interface of the application and finally see up close the PA’s future.
