In September 2020 SPID reached 10 million active accounts. 10 million Italians now have a single digital identity that they can use to access numerous Public Administration services.

There are over 4.5 million more users than in 2019, a goal achieved thanks to government initiatives and the principles of the Simplifications Decree. The growth in digital identities goes hand in hand with access to services; between January and July, SPID was used on average 8 million times a month to access online services.

In addition to using the PA services online, thanks to AppIO and PagoPA, with SPID it is possible to authenticate to acquire the remote signature. The service is currently available from two certifiers that allow the acquisition, with SPID level 2 authentication, of the remote signature in the long term or in one shot mode. Finally, the SPID identity is also the key to access the public services provided by the EU Member States that have joined the eIDAS node.
